So far just reading the different stories and going over the different stories throughout the class, I have learned so much about the past and learned so much how about things still takes some part of the future in today’s time. Most authors used Anaphora throughout their stories during that time. Anaphora is the repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of a series of clauses or sentences. It’s often seen in poetry and speeches, intended to provoke a emotional response in its audience. Throughout the stories I felt pain, hurt and shocked but I really did enjoy the stories especially the story called , ” The Body Snatcher”. I was sad, mad and always relived throughout the story. I loved this particular story because it showed so many emotions throughout the story. It showed emotions such as pain, hurt, anger , disappointments, blackmailing, death, and much more.

The Body Snatcher

The story the Body Snatcher is so creepy to me and how the doctor was using bodies of the death people without the permission from the death people family. It was like the doctor was dealing in the black market but just dealing with bodies. The doctor pretty much did not know how half of his bodies came about but yet he still took the bodies and pretty much did not ask questions so he do not have to accountable if anything bad has happened to the dead person until he came across this one particular body that he could no longer pretend to not know something terrible has happened to the young lady which made him apart of the crime. The author used the darkness and rain to input fear into the readers because in most movies when someone is in danger or a scary scene rain or darkness always represents pain and fear in some form. The author uses things like When dead bodies weren’t available some resurrectionists committed murder for profit.

Sherlock Holmes

A favorite Sherlock Holmes show imitation of mine would have to be the television show, ” Elementary” which still plays today since 2012. The television show, ” Elementary” is a modern take on the cases of Sherlock Holmes, with the detective now living in New York City. My other favorite Television show would have to be the show, ” Sherlock Holmes” that aired in the year of 2009. Detective Sherlock Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson engage in a battle of wits and brawn with a nemesis whose plot is a threat to all of England. Sherlock Holmes has played such a big part in today’s time and I never noticed how much it played in our generations. Television shows and movies has been invented just off of this character.

Victorians Pop Culture

Victorians Pop Culture is still seen in today’s time just called another name such as the Penny Gaffs and Music Halls. Like singing halls is consider something like a club, bar in days of time. We still have theaters today that we go back to watch plays, performances of all sorts, musical concerts of all genres. One of The most famous Victorian freak show attraction was the “Elephant Man” his real name was Joseph Merrick. Also another famous Victorian freak show attraction was Ella Harper known as the, ” The Camel Girl” during her time. Some one during today’s time that would have fit in perfect in the Victorian Freak Show attraction would be Schlitzie Simon Melt. Schlitzie was born with the disease microcephaly. Schlitzie had a shrunken head and brain and the mental capacity of a 3 years old even in his adulthood. He could speak in short sentences and phrases while dressing as a girl.

Rikki Tikki Tavi

The story “Rikki Tikki Tavi” was a very interesting story to me and i can honestly say that I really enjoyed reading it. I think the story represented the British culture spreading through the British empire territories by showing how the new people or things coming about in the story was taken in good by certain people when others wanted it dead and gone. The story showed power especially with the women characters. It also showed love and determination of protecting their home and love ones in the story. In class the discussion of the white man’s burden was very interesting because it is something that is still been done in today’s time period. During that time they thought they were making things better since they had better resources and not really thinking of the other people culture and that such thing still goes on in today’s time. We want to help but also taking away the other people culture in a way.

A Mad Tea Party

Reading the story I was thinking it was going to be about people fussing over something dealing with tea between rich people. I can say that the story was very interesting and mad some good points in many ways as the author was trying tell throughout the story. But by me reading the story I learned that you can view things in many different ways in life. So what I think is that no matter how a person thinks or see certain things in life does not make either person wrong, just have open your eyes and see things in their way for a quick moment. It is funny how the story really did not talk about tea at all and really was not a part setting.

Retail Therapy

From reading the article I saw that retail therapy during the Victorian era was used pretty much as a hobby for the wealthy housewives to do during the day. The women used that time to hang with their friends and buy the many things that they wanted. What I have noticed is that the sayings about customers are always right and the sale person has to do everything in their power to make the customer happy is something that is still being said and done in the retail industry today. Not only that, women of all class uses retail as a way to relax and find time to hang with friends and use it as a way to pass time or to just be relaxing.

Hastings from the Beach (1864)

when I enlarged the photograph , I see a bunch of women fully dressed. It also look like they are at the each during the winter time because it look like they have on coats while at the beach. I think the women went swimming in another areas of the beach with more privacy since women were so modest back in that time era. The women probably had swimming attire under all of their regular clothing. I do not see any birds in the picture which is not normal during the summer and at a beach area so that is why I think it is either winter or late fall time. I also see that the beach was close to big houses or buildings so I am guessing the people in the picture is wealthy.

Goblin Market

I think the poem relates to modern time is how people especially young girls be tempted by temptation even though we know it is probably be something wrong but feels so right at that particular moment. I think the fruits in the poem could symbolize love, sex, money, fame, anything material wise or something as simple as attention from the opposite sex. I think it did have a deeper meaning for the Victorians back then, it could have meant something as simple as just having money or power with the poorer Victorians. The poem shows how one chose to take the higher road but the other chose to wonder and find out about the forbidden. Some people have to learn a lesson the hard way, while others learn a lesson from watching others mistakes.

Prostitution Victorian Era

I think prostitution is still high in today times but it is done in a more quiet way and in ways of just making not for taking care of families but some is just for fun and bad habits. During the Victorian Era I think that increase of prostitution came from the economy being so bad. And during that time men did not believe in starting a family such as having kids or getting married unless they have some decent amount of money coming into their household. Also women was not even getting near the pay the men were getting in the factories , as the working conditions was so horrible. Most women felt it was better to just do prostitution because they could make more money and even be in a cleaner environment than it a factory during that time. I think we have somewhat address that cause because the jobs now a days hiring women, pay better and better work environments.
