The movie monsters that I would like to compare is Jason and Freddy Krugger. The reason I chose these two movie monsters is because for years I was terrified of them especially as a child because it was the way they killed their victims in the films. Jason killed his victims in such a slow painful way without even doing any kind of running but still managed to kill every victim especially in the dark. Freddy Krugger killed his victims in their sleeps and that had me scared for days to go to sleep because he could kill you at any given moment. You can not avoid going to sleep so he had the best advantage of all movie monsters. I think the monsters that deal with real life issues is the monster that stays in poeple mine even after being out of the box office.

I think I love the movie ending better than any of them. The reason I chose this particular ending is because it actually showed Estella showing her love for Pip and he actually felt her being the person she truly wanted to be and he saw the love she had for him despite the fact that they never truly got to be in a relationship together. I am actually happy how Pip and Estella ended up. The reason that I am is because they both were still happy being together or not being together and their lives seem to be going great. Sometimes you are not meant to be with the person you love and just love them from a distance because in the story they both were both damaged but the love they had for one another kept them alive in some kind of way in my eyes. At first I wanted them to end up together but the further I watched I saw that they did not need to be together and was happy that they ended up living their lives separately but still had love for one another.

In the novel Great Expectations I actually like both characters Pip and Estella because they both were innocence but made to be people that they truly never wanted to be but had no choice. I love Estella honesty and willing to obey her owner in other words. I love the fact that Pip lost himself but eventually went back to the person that he was meant to be and I love the fact that he still loved Estella even after all of the years of not seeing her and her telling him that she could never be with him. I think Ms. Havisham was broken and pitiful and I do not blame her for being hurt for so many years and for trying to prevent Estella for the same faith. I love how Joe still was there for Pip even when Pip turned his back on him when he went to see him in the city but I think Mrs. Joe was just an evil mean lady.

In Charles Dickens biography I think a part of his life that appeared the first chapter of the novel ” Great Expectations” was the fact he was in a place that he did not want to be without his parents. Even though in the story the parents was dead but in real life they went to prison for debt. Also the fact that his father was determined not to have him working in the laboring houses and to be better than he was. So I took that in the novel was when the prisoner met Pip and by his loyalty made him want better and to get Pip to have a much better life than he had. Yes I do think that Charles Dickens did witness some cruel things that inspired the characters pip and prisoner because he witness his family be separated due to money problems and going to prison as well as him going off to a laboring factory which was pretty much a prison and he was only a boy.

Charles Dickens felt like the executions were no longer about serving justice for the victims or giving out punishments to the criminals but more like for entertainment purposes and he was against it. In the article I read that was up to 30,000 people gathering together to just watch the death of someone like they were watching a play or show being performed for the public. I think Charles would be more pleased with the fact that executions are still done behind private walls and it is not considered an public attraction. Also the fact that only few gets to witness the execution of the criminal.

By reading the article I was mostly surprised at how the prison treated the prisoners. The prisoners had to be cut off from all humans and were forbidden to speak while wearing masks on their faces at all times. I was also surprised to read that each prisoner had their own private cell and washing area in the cell with them. I noticed that back then that the Victorians came up with a uniform for the officers to wear to know them apart from a regular citizen just like in today’s time. The similarities in today’s time with criminals and their punishments is still pretty close to back then. Criminals if found guilty still goes to prisons and be out into cells and being executed is still a punishment for certain crimes and it is still done among the prison instead out in the opening like in the past until Charles Dickens spoke on it.

The most surprising thing I learned about the Victorians traveling to me was the fact that the Queen Victoria was not all for the new technology and going 40 miles an hour made her feel scared and requested the driver to go slower. To read that some thought that speed could endanger the human race and in today’s time a lot of people has died in many accidents due to speed in cars or other transportation’s. I was shocked to learn that what was considered fast with trains in the Victorian Era was 80 miles an hour but in today’s time trains can go over 100+ miles an hour. And the fact that we have more and better ways to travel to one-side of the world or just across to the other side of town. During the Victorian Era riding horses and carriages was only transportation but now it is for fun.

When taking our first test for class was so nerve wrecking for me because I did not know what expect. I Felt like that I could have done much better but I do not do well when it comes to time tests. I also was stuck because I just did not know what to write especially knowing that I was being timed. I just know what to expect on our next test and I plan to be better prepared and less nervous. I would not mind the next test be set up similarly to the first test not timed at all. I was very freaked out walking into the testing room but once I sat down and actually started I relaxed and was able to focus more but the timing threw me off a little. Overall I think that the test was very successful in the end despite my nervousness.

My favorite discussion over the semester so far has to be discussion on the different types of Victorian “Monsters” and the different cultures during that time. I loved learning about the different killers throughout that time and how some of the killers killed people or the ways they disposed of the victims bodies. I was so shocked to learned about how much of our fashion, rules or regulations originality during the Victorian era. Especially dealing in the nursing field and how we still follow some of the hygiene protocols to keep down germs. I love how during that time people followed a a certain trend that they thought was the proper way and in a way now our generation still follow trends to try to fit in or to show wealth in some kind of way. I was shocked to learn about the freak shows they had back then to have as entertainment during that time and we still be into as it was called freak shows. The culture or royalty family still seem to take a major effect throughout history and today’s time.

A good story to read is the book called , ” Tales From The Morgue”. What I found so good about the book was that it was true stories of actual deaths with real people and how some of them died in very crazy ways. In one of the stories that I thought was real funny and amazing at the same time was the death of an older lady. “Not a mortician, this comes from my mother back when she was a teenager. Guy she knows takes a job with the local funeral home. He works the graveyard shift, all was well for the first few months. Dude is often weirded-out at work, claims that the building is haunted. Earlier in the evening, they get a call from the hospital saying that they have a lady there ready for pickup. They pick her up, guy is freaking out, says he has a bad feeling. Later in the evening, mortician has to step out for a bit, leaving guy there alone with the dead lady. He goes about his work, still a little freaked out. Suddenly he hears this low, soft moan….He swears it is just his mind playing tricks on him, goes about his business. He hears it again, little louder than last time, it is late, he is alone, he is just hearing things, probably just the pipes settling, the plumbing is old after all. Short time passes and it is louder, at this point he is sure he isn’t just imaging things, he knows he heard the dead lady moan. His first though was the mortician was fucking with him, he has been shaken all evening and this asshole is pranking him. He marches over, very funny you dick, yanks back the sheet covering the dead lady expecting to find the mortician somewhere around her….Dead lady grabs the guy’s wrist….He lets out this scream and bolts for the door. Forgets his car, runs all the way home. The lady was not even dead. lol just in a coma.
